Julies's latest toy Julie's new Trike is based on a 1987 Suzuki VS750 Intruder, is considerably smaller than the GTR and handles a lot better.
History of Julie's first Trike A few years ago my wife (Julie) decided that having always been a pillion she wanted to get into riding on the front. She was unsure what kind of bike she wanted until walking around the "Grinall" stand at the BMF Show she saw the Boxer Trike conversion. But that was VERY expensive, so another solution had to be found. As it happens we knew a guy (Kafka, Ex NCC Lincs) who builds trikes, we asked and he said yes. First we had to find a donor bike, it needed to be large & shaft driven. This Kawasaki GTR1000 was chosen, it has 1000cc's, water cooled and has a shaft drive. The bike next to it belongs to Charlie (NCC Lincs). Various bits & pieces were gathered (rear axle, wheels, etc) and the whole lot went off to Kafka's for the conversion to be done. Here we have pictures taken towards the end of the build, the swinging arm assy had just been fitted and it was it's first time on 3 wheels. The rear axle was made up from a Reliant rear axle fitted to the modified GTR swinging arm, enabling the rear suspension to be kept. Julie took it for a test ride and it took me a week to get the smile off her face! She was hooked.
Here's Julie & our son Steven at the Sherwood HOG rally 2003 What's a trike like to ride I hear you say, Great fun! It's like riding a combo on steroids, without the instability. I suggest you find a bloke that's got one and ask him for a ride, see what you think!
